A website you can walk through.

Inside Art by Ilka Schulz: an immersive digital gallery that connects paintings, their stories and a direct conversation with the studio.

The brief for an artist’s website starts with the work. Paintings need room to be seen, a sense of scale and a way for someone to move closer. For Art by Ilka Schulz, we built a digital gallery around that experience.

Visitors arrive in the Artist’s Villa, an imagined architectural setting for the collection. They can move between rooms, inspect paintings and open the work that catches their attention. The villa is a virtual gallery, with the artworks at the centre of the experience.

Make discovery feel like a visit

The salon introduces portraits. Other rooms bring different works into view. Paintings can be inspected more closely, while links between rooms keep the collection connected. A conventional shop view is also available for visitors who want to browse the catalog directly.

The two ways of exploring serve different intentions. Someone discovering the artist can take their time in the rooms. Someone returning for a particular painting can go straight to its details.

Connect interest to the studio

Individual artwork pages provide the next step. Visitors can select available works and submit an order request with their contact and delivery information. The studio then confirms availability, delivery arrangements and payment.

Submitting a request does not charge the visitor or reserve the painting. This keeps the online journey aligned with the personal handling that original art requires.

Build the working side of the gallery

The project also includes a management workspace for the studio. Paintings, collections, enquiries and order requests belong to the same operating system, so maintaining the site is part of the studio’s everyday workflow.

Artwork labels and QR links connect a physical encounter with a painting to its digital page. Someone viewing a work can continue exploring without searching through the full catalog again.

A collection that can keep evolving

The result is a website structured around both presentation and upkeep. New work can enter the collection, stories can grow around individual paintings, and enquiries have a clear route back to the studio.

For us, the interesting part is the connection between atmosphere and function. The rooms invite exploration. The catalog, artwork pages and studio workflow give that exploration somewhere to lead.
